Antipsychotic

Psychosis is a severe mental illness characterized by thoughts and emotions that are so impaired. It resemble like person has lost the contact with reality. People facing psychosis have false thoughts i.e. delusions and hear or see those things that are not there (hallucinations).

Psychosis affects three out of every 100 individual. It is most likely affect young adults but can happen to anyone and at any age. The experience of this disorder can scare and may cause people who are suffering to hurt themselves or even others.

This disorder is caused by several of reasons such as brain diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, chromosomal disorder, Huntington’s disease, HIV, syphilis, and other infections that attack the brain, brain tumors or cysts, some types of epilepsy, stroke and environmental causes such as excess use of alcohol, illegal drugs, cocaine, some steroids and stimulants can also cause this harmful disorder.

Some of the common symptoms of psychosis are depresses mood, anxiety, suspiciousness, withdrawal from family and friends, difficulty in concentrating, delusions, hallucinations, suicidal thoughts etc.

 

Psychosis can be diagnosed by keeping eye on patient activities and asking questions what they are experiencing. Different medical test and X-rays are used to determine the underlying illness. Treatment is done with the help of proper antipsychotics medications such as Risperdal, Abilify-Aripiprazole, Geodon, Haldol, Paliperidone, Solian, Zyprexa and Sibelium. These medications help to reduce hallucinations and helps patient to think more clearly.
