Betaxolol eye drops are used to treat increased pressure in the eye or ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma. Most of the times, people with glaucoma does not show early signs or pain due to rise in the pressure, hence regular eye- checkup is very important, especially in cases where the individual has a family history of glaucoma so that it can be diagnosed and dealt with before long-term visual loss can happen.

Contraindications:-

  • If you suffer from develop an eye infection or injury, or have eye surgery;
  • In case you are taking other beta blockers such as timolol, metipranolol, etc.

Procedure to use Betaxolol eye drops:-

  • The suggested dose of this medication is one drop of Betaxolol in the affected eyes 2 times daily. Keep on using these eye drops even if you feel better.
    • Remove contact lenses and all the eye make-up before using these eye drops.
    • Properly wash your hands before and after using these drops.
    • Lean your head back and then, drop the medicine into the eyes. Gently close your eyes and do not blink.

Overdose of Betaxolol eye drops can lead to harmful effects. In case of emergency, contact your doctor. Instill the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Though, if it is almost time for the subsequent dose, skip the missed dose and carry on with your usual dosing schedule. Do not instill a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Short-term adverse effects are bronchospasm; unclear vision; difficulty in breathing; eye redness; sensitivity to light; fever; slower heart rate; burning sensation in the eye; dryness; itching; swelling of eyelids, etc.

  • If more than one topical ophthalmic drug is being used, the drugs should be administered at least 10 minutes apart.
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed. To prevent contamination of the eye drops, do not touch the applicator tip.
  • Your vision for the short term can get hazy or blurred after applying this drug. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires clear vision.
  • Throw away the medicine which is no longer to be used.
