Vigamox is a highly popular and demanded medication which is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye. When pathogenic bacteria reproduce quickly in the body and give off harmful toxins, it can damage tissues and can make an individual sick or ill. Vigamox is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic which kills the sensitive bacteria by stopping the synthesis of essential proteins which is required by the bacteria to survive.

Pharmacology of the medication:

The major therapeutic activity of the medication is imparted by the chief active moiety present in the medication named moxifloxacin. There are two types of enzymes which play an important part in the synthesis of bacterial species- topoisomerase II (also known as DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV. Topoisomerase II DNA gyrase is an essential enzyme involved in the replication, transcription and repair of bacterial DNA and Topoisomerase IV is an enzyme which is responsible to play a major role in the dividing of chromosomal DNA during the bacterial cell division. The antibacterial action of moxifloxacin is shown by inhibition of these two enzymes.
